Referring to the Swastika flag incident yesterday, when a company of •ex-servicemen allegedly Jed by four New Zealanders demonstrated outside • the German Consulate and demanded the removal of the swastika which was flying from a window, Doctor O. Seger, acting German Consul in the absence of the Consul-General who is en route to Germany, said: “I am puzzled how in this civilised city such a misderstanding should have arisen. I gave au instruction that our flag was to bo hoisted half-mast yesterday in honour of the dead Australian heroes and it was not flown at full mast until I saw all the other flags hoisted full mast. However, I do not take the incident seriously, although the matter will be reported to the authorities in Germany. ’' A police report to-day stated that the German flag at the Consulate was flown at half-mast until noon yesterday after which it was raised to the masthead.
