Pahiatua D.H. School

MEETING OF COMMITTEE A meeting of the Pahiatua District High School Committee was held on Monday night, the chairman, Mr. G. G. Taylor, presiding. Others present were Mesdames C. S. Carrad and E. Vincent, Messrs. C. McCardle, M. F. Ryan, W. H. Lawry, W. Harris, the secretary (Mr. W. H. Murch) and the headmaster (Mr. T. Clarke). An apology for absence was received from Mr. R. H. Taylor. A motion of condolence was passed with Mr. Murch in his recent bereavement. Mr. Lawry, for the visiting committee, suggested replacing the old netting around the tennis court; also that more wood wanted to be cut up and put in out of the weather. Kindling wood was also required for the winter. He recommended that hedge cuttings lying on the ground be burnt. The secretary said he had instructed the men to cut up the firewood but to date they had done nothing. It was decided that the wood had to be cut by Wednesday week and if the present men could not handle it the secretary was instructed to employ others. It was decided to endeavour to procure a load of dry kindling wood from the mill. It was decided to procure new netting for around the tennis court and to sell the old netting in the best possible way and to procure a clock for the infant school, the cost not to exceed £l. The Dental Nurse (Miss M. do reported on work done duriwg .•+Zicn as follows: Pahiatua 31, Convent 15, Makomako 9, Ballance 21, Hamua 19, Hukanui 1, Makuri 5; total, 101. Mr. Harris asked whether during the winter months the small children travelling by bus could be allowed to wait in tho school till the bus left. The headmaster said he thought that could be arranged. Mrs. C. S. Carrad and Mr. C. McCardle were appointed to the visiting committee for May.
