Baldwin Blames Versailles
RUINED GERMANY AND UPSET EUROPE'S ECONOMICS

Earl Baldwin, issuing a warning that the democracies can only resist tyranny successfully if tho spiritual effort is greater than the material, blamed the Versailles Treaty and reparations for to-day’s distracted Europe. They had ruined Germany and upset the whole economic structure of Europe. “Civilisation will perish,” he added,
“if Nazi triumphs are gained on Europe’s bloody fields. When Louis XIV sought world domination and likewise w r hen Napoleon did so they were answered and it was answered again in 1914. If the challenge comes again we can do no other than go to war, so help us God.”
