Standard of Fire Brigades Higher Than Ever

ANNUAL CONFERENCE Ter Press Association. WANGANUI, March 6. ‘‘The year has been very strenuous, but the standing of the United Fire Brigades’ Association is higher than ii ever has been,” states the annual report of the executive presented to the New Zealand conference, which opened to-day. The president (Mr. D. L. Fergusen, Gisborne) is presiding. Increased business has been done at the depot, 4250 feet of hose being purchased and distributed to the brigades with other appliances, the report adds. There is an increase of four brigades competing in the competitions and 18 more teams than at the Nelson demonstration. It is hoped to further modernise the events after this demonstration. The indiscriminate use of syrens by traffic inspectors and firemen, after being called out unnecessarily, was discussed and it was decided to take the matter up with the Transport Department.
