Library Delegates Tour District
THANKS RETURNED FOR HOSPITALITY Delegates attending tho New Zealand Library Association’s Conference ?n Palmerston North were taken on a tour of the city and district yesterday morning, the Milson aerodrome, the Esplanade and Massey College. Cars were arranged by the Mauawatu Automobile Association, and the tour was conducted by the service officer (Mr. H. R. D. Browne), who, from a public address system in his car, gave the visitors a running commentary on the places visited. Later in the day, visiting delegates left for their homes. liosco tearooms, when the opportunity was taken by the newly-elected president of the Association (Mr. J. Barr) to thank the Palmerston North City Council, the Automobile Association and th« citizens of Palmerston North for ail that had been done to make the stay of the visitors enjoyable. “It has been a memorable conference in more ways than one,” Mr. Barr added. We have done much which should pave the way to a higher standard of library service, and outside of tho conference we have been showered with hospitality which makes us regret to leave the city.” (Applause.) Mr. W. G. Black (chairman of the Palmerston North City Council’s library committee) apologised for the absence of the Mayor (Mr. A. E. Mansford) and t-xpressesd pleasure that anything done for the enjoyment of delegates had been appreciated. Mr. Black congratulated the retiring president (Mr. T. D. Hall) on his scholarly address at the openiug of the conference and on the dignity with which he had conducted the buslines*. He also congratulated Mr. Barr on L._ ... ion to the presidential chair.
