Car Destroyed by Fire
CJCCUP ANTS’ HURRIED ESCAPE
While returning home along the Ridge Central Road at about 9 o’clock Thursday night, a car containing three men caught fire when practically opposite the old golf links and was totally destroyed. Messrs. L. Laing, H. L. Pinfold and D. Blair, had beeh out rabbiting in Mr. Laing’s car and were returning home when the fire occurred, the occupants barely having time to get out before the car was a raging inferno. It is thoughtthat the fire was caused by the electrical wiring shorting, the fire starting under the dashboard. The flames quickly spread all over the car, an onlooker stating that the flames reached about 50 feet. The heat from the blaze was terrific, the glass on the dashboard being melted, running into solid lumps. A bottle of car polish in a pocket on the dashboard was also melted into a solid lump. After the fire had burnt out the car was towed to Terry’s Garage with the use of a wrecker.
