Anton Dolin, principal male dancer with the Russian Ballet, asked the “Times” last evening a little anxiously in Palmerston North audiences knew how to applaud. This was a poser for the reporter who countered by trying to find excuses for the fact that a charge of lack of enthusiasm had been levelled at theatregoers. “I want to jump and shout when I see something beautiful,” Mr. Dolin said, “and you are going to see something very beautiful in the ballet.” Air. Dolin went on to point out that ballets were arranged to induce applause at certain intervals to give the dancers a breather and when the applause did not come this entailed hardship. However, the very generous and spontaneous applause that greeted the ballets last evening must have answered this visitor’s question satis factorily.
