Labour Government And Friendly Societies
(To the Editor.) Sir,— ln reply to Arch Druid I will admit there are some slight alterations in the benefits since they admitted female members to the lodge and as Arch Druid states single female members pay 12s, married with children 18s, male members 20s per annum. These are only part of their contributions and refer to medical benefits only. Arch Druid admits a member must be affilated six months before he is entitled to any benefits. He should also know that there is not a flat rate for medical contributions to all lodges. They vary in different lodges. Will he dispute my statement that my contributions are £1 8s 9d less 7s 6d medical pence now £1 Is 3d? 1 have admired my error; will he admit his? He also draws my attention to death benefits as I stated before I only referred to medical benefits for which I deducted medical pence leaving £1 Is 3d which I still pay lor death benefits, namely £lO on the deata of my wife, £IOO on the death of myself and £2O funeral allowance—total, £l3O. I have paid £4 5s per annum for over 40 years— total £IBO or £SO more than I shall ever receive and I still have to pay £1 Is 3d per quarter till I die unless they make some alteration which would make me wrong again. I have been a supporter of the Labour Party for 20 years and study the Labour Government schemes perhaps a little more closely than Arch Druid. I am not quite so silly as he would have people believe. He says social security docs not pay death benefits. Neither does superannuation, but the lodge does and I have paid for mine. E. BALL.
