APPEAL
RUGBY, Aug. 3. The public appeal for funds for i Oxford University was closed on July 31. Apart from Lord Nuffield’s major benefactions, which include £100,006 to build and equip a new physical and chemistry laboratory, the grand total received from all sources to July 26 was £463,121. The university's programme, for which the sum subscribed will be devoted, includes extensions to the Bodleian Library and the Ashmoleau Mu seum, the establishment of a centre for the study of social sciences, a physical chemistry laboratory, the equipment and alteration of the old Clarendon laboratory to meet the demands of the geology department, and £30,000 to wards the rebuilding of the physioloo-y laboratory.
I The next stage of the university’s programme includes a new laboratory for botany and tho completion of the physiology and geology laboratories, which will be undertaken as soon as funds are available.
