STALLION FOR EGMONTWANGANUI HUNT CLUB Royal Banquet, immediately after the Grand National meeting, will be handed over to the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club. He is the stallion selected for this district under the remount encouragement scheme. He is an ideal ! type, for besides being a genuine raCej horse he has proved himself over fences and has size and power to get horses admirably suited for the intended purpose. | BAD WEATHER AFFECTED FINANCIAL RESULTS Regret that the balance-sheet showed a profit of only £79 5s sd, after writing off £2Ol 9s 5d for depreciation, was expressed by the president, Mr. S. C. Tonks, at the annual general meeting of the Egmont Racing Club this week. The meetings held during the season were popular successes, but bad weather affected the financial results. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED la Australia, when a horse is badly left at the post, an official inquiry is generally held into the matter and the public notified concerning the cause. The same applies to Interference. In the Brabazon Handicap three Winter Cup candidates were hopelessly left. These were Dictate, Araboa and Sovereign Lady, and as they are fancied for tho Winter Cup the public would like, no doubt, to have gained official information as to the cause of the trouble (states the Otago Daily Times). People lose money in New Zealand just the same as in Australia, through following horses, and are entitled to know why it has been lost at the rise of the barrier or through interference during the race. If a horse is defeated on merit or rather, by lack of it, then his followers know where they are, but when defeat is caused by bad luck or interference then ground exists for adhering to a horse. DEATH OF KING’S GUARD Tho trotter King’s Guard was killed by an electric shock while walking into his box at R. B. Berry’s stable on Tuesday. The stables at Yaldhurst are built on a different plan from tho usual, and arc set in pairs at intervals on the property. Each box is lighted by electricity, and apparently King’s Guard came in contact with a live wire and reeeivod tho full force of an electric shock. The gelding, who was owned by Mr. J. A. Mitchell and leased to Berry, won two good races last season worth £450. Ho claimed engagements on the second and third days of the August meeting, and while not a recognised stayer, lio was a really good trotter up to a mile and a-half.
