On Monday night’s practice shoot at the rifle range the following scores were registered: J. Day 196, W. Bising 195, F. Eh bett 195, H. Ebbett 194, J. Sargent 193, P Maurice 191, C. Garlick 190. J. Garlick 189, M. Angove 189, C. McMurtrie 185, M. Foster 176.

At Konini on Tuesday evening the Makomako Rifle Club team engaged in a Byrne Shield match, securing a win by a good margin. The visitors were entertained to supper after the match by the home side. Scores were as follow:

Arbor bay.

The annual Arbor Day celebration, arranged by the Women’s Institute and school, was held on Wednesday afternoon in ideal conditions. Mr C. K. Claris, in an instructive address to the children, explained the reason for Arbor Day and the urgent need for its continued observance. Present at the function were Rev. Mr Moore, Pahiatua, and Mr Brockett, agricultural advisor to schools, both of whom assisted to make the occasion a memorable one. Two shrubs, donated by Mrs Eddie on behalf of the institute, were planted, and quite a large plot of native seedling plants, collected by the children, were set out in the nursery bed. Tlie children entertained with recitations appropriate to the occasion and the function concluded with afternoon tea. Personal. Miss D. Day is visiting Master ton. Mrs Chattell, of Ashburton, is at present the buest of her cousin, Mrs F. Ebbbtt. Mrs A. Eddie, of Hastings, is visiting her mother, Mrs F. Groves.
