Oranges From Norfolk Island

THIRD CONSIGNMENT SINCE 3935 Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. The third shipment of oranges consigned to Auckland from Norfolk Island since 1935 will bo loaded by the South Pacific Line steamer Tasman when she cads there about Tuesday on her voyage from Saigon to Auckland. In recent years difficulty has been experienced by the Islands in producing sufficient fruit to warrant the divorsion or chartering of a ship, but the season is now at its best and it is understood a ready market is available. In July of last year the motor-ship Maetsuycker called at Norfolk Island for oranges under similar circumstancos to the Tasman, but rough weather forced her to sail and leavo the larger proportion behind. To save heavy loss to the islanders, the Burns Philp steamer Morinda was sent at the instance of the Australian Government to pick up the remaining cargo for Auckland. The Tasman, which will load about 1000 cases of oranges, will also embark about 15 passengers for Auckland at Norfolk Island. She will arrive here next Friday morning. Delays in handling cargo from the motor-ship Salamaua have resulted in her departure from Auckland for Sydney with tho steamer Mako in tow being postponed until Saturday morning. The Mako, which has been sold by the Richardson Line to W. R. Carpenter and Company, of Sydney, for tho New Guinea trade, is alongside the Salamaua at Prince’s Wharf.
