Conflicting Reports From Spain
Both Sides Claim Successes: “TERRIBLE DISASTER” THREATENED TO LOYALISTS United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Thursday, Midnight. LONDON, Aug. 4. Reports from the Spanish fronts are most conflicting, indicating that the position has not greatly changed. Under a full moon the Nationalists made three raids on Barcelona for the first time in a fortnight. Four were killed and 46 injured. An unknown freighter discharging war materials at Tarragona was sunk. A communique from Barcelona claims that the Republicans are holding their new position on the Ebro. The Nationalists maintain that the enemy in this sector is in a hopeless position and hint at a “terrible disaster.” They also assert that they beat back the Republicans on the Fayon sector where it is reported 300 were killed and 100 captured.
