CLOSE FINISH AGA2NST WAIRARAPA On Wednesday night the Bush and Wairarapa Miniature Jctihe Associations fired a representative match, snooting in Pahiatua on the Mangamutu club's range. Teams of twenty a-side were selected, but umortunately two of the visiting team diet not turn >*> and it was founu necessary to average tne score of the IS Wairarapa memuers and count this twice. Shooting was of a high standard, there being three 100 (B. B. demons and A. rule, Wairarapa, and A.. Tait, Bush) and twelve all-buts. The visitors won by the narrow margin of three points, which indicates how exciting a contest it was and how much the standard of shooting nas improved in the Bush district. The Bush team was selected on ladder performances in the Byrno Shield and was almost as strong as it could possibly be. Mr. O. Stone, president of the Bush Association, at supper-time, extended a very hearty welcome to the visitors and paid a tribute to the manner in which Mesdames Daken and Foss had served the refreshments. Mr. B. King, captain of the Wairarapa side, acknowledged the welcome and congratulated Bush on the greatly improved standard of shooting. Mr. C. J. JDelacey, secretary of the Wairarapa Association, also spoke and said he hoped the Bush Association would be able to run a championship meeting soon as they had a very fino range. BYRNE SHIELD The second shoot in the last round of the Byrne Shield competition fired on Tuesday night saw Makomako and Mangatainoka register meritorious victories over Konini and Mangamutu respectively. The Makomako club, shooting on the Konini range, put up a record score of 978, an average of 97.8 per man. Top scorers w'ere C. Garlick, J. Sargent and W. G.
