Konini Festivities

ST. JAMES’ CHURCH WEEK The parishioners of St. James’ Church, Wonini, held a social and dance to celebrate St. James’ week, in the Konini hall on Monday evening last. In the absence of the minister, Mr. Wilson (who is away through illhealth), Mr. Hamilton, people’s warden of Pahiatua, welcomed all present and hoped everyone would have an enjoyable evening. He read a telegram from Mr. Wilson conveying that gentleman’s good wishes. Mr. Hamilton referred to the wonderful advancement of Mr. Gerard, a former Pahiatua vicar, who is now Bishop of Waiapu. Mr. Smith acted as M.O. and music was supplied by Mr. Sargisson, Miss Miller and Miss Lawson. Some very line items were given by Mrs. Moriarty (recitation), Master Allen Welsh (songs) and Master Gerald Welsh (recitation). The Monte Carlo was won by Mrs. H. Hirst and Mr. Miller, and the lucky spot waltz by Mr. Smith and Mrs. Sargisson. Several games wero participated in by all, especially the young people. The ladies provided a sumptuous supper. Mr. F. Bidder, secretary of St. James’ Chnrch Committee, on behalf of the committee, thanked all for coming out on such a cold night and making the evening so enjoyable, especially thanking Mr. Hamilton and other vestrymen and their wives for their attendance and interest taken in St. James’. He asked all to join the committee in wishing that God would soon restore Bev. Wilson to health, so that he may be able to resume his good work. The committee’s thanks were due to all who helped, especially those who supplied the music, rendered items and provided supper.
