From Our Own Correspondent. Miss D. Perrett, of “Candown,” Sandon, sailed on Monday by the Maunganui for Fiji. Miss Mary Murphy, of Sandon, was also a passenger who sailed on Monday for a trip to the Islands. The annual seven-a-side football tournament conducted by the Te Kawau Rugby Sub-union to be held at Oroua Downs on Saturday. It is understood good entries have been received and football fans who attend should witness some bright games. The Sandon club will be represented by the following players: A Matthews, F. and R. Meyer, H. McCabe, P. Gedye, M. Lumsden, R. Gray and G. Williams.

The Sandon Miniature Rifle Club will, be represented by the following members at the annual championship shoot to be held in Wanganui on Saturday by the Wanganui Miniature Rifle Association: K. M. Pearce, K. Lumsden, M. Pearce, J. C. Fagan and R. W. Meyer. At the weekly shoot held on Monday evening there was a good attendance of members. A match was held between the single and married men. the former winning by 805 points to 790. Winners of The buttons for the evening were: A grade, 1 R. W. Meyer; B grade, W. A. Lumsden and K. Henson; C grade, L. Sigglekowe. Scores were as follow: R. W. Meyer 137, K. Lumsden 136, W. A. Lumsden 136, K. i Henson 136, J. C. Fagan 133. E. Green 132, M. Pearce 132, D. Masters 132, H. The euchre and cribbage tournament sponsored by the Sanson branch of the Labour Party was again, well patronised on Moonday evening. The winners for the evening were: Euchre, Mrs F. Hill and Mr R. W. Oppatt. A meeting of party members was called at the conclusion of cards to finalise arrangements for the dance to be held in the town liall on Friday (to-night). There is every indication of this function being an outstanding- success. Carnival Committee Disbands. The final meeting in connection with the Sandon Queen Carnival was held on Monday evening, Mr A. K. Drew (chairman) presiding. It was decided to write thanking Mrs E. B. Robert for her assistance in connection with tne crowning ceremony. It was proposed by Mr C. E Eglinton and seconded by Mr J. C. Fagan that the resolution passed on June 20 be rescinded and the following resolution, proposed by Mr J. W. Beattio and second ed by Mr F. 3. Collier, was nassed; “Thai the nett proceeds from the Queen Carnival be paid into the P.O. Savings Bank, in the name of the Sandon Hall Fund, to he held in trust for the renovation and alteration of the Sandon hall, and that Messrs J. C. Fagan and C. E. Eglinton be appointed trustees of that fund with power to use the fund for the purpose for which it was raised.’’ The chairman thanked the committee for the work they had done and remarked that it was a pleasure to fvork with them He also thanked the secretary, Mr Kent, for the way he had run the business of the carnival. Mr Drew moved that the committee’s appreciation be placed on record of the work done by the secretarytreasurer, this being seconded by Mr Es* linton. Mr C. E. Eglinton said that the committee had run the carnival in the best spirit and he, personally, thanked Mr Drew for the able manner in Which he had carried out his duties. It was resolved that all records in. connection with tho carnival be filed. The following is the balance sheet:— Receipts. Eastern committee, £276 Ss Id; Western, £l6O 7s lOd; Central, £147 17s 2d; opening night proceeds, nett, £6 19s sd; closing night, nett, £6 Os lid; coronation, nett, £S 13s 8d; donation M. employees social committee, £4 Is; total £591 8s Bd. Expenditure: Advertising, £9 8s 9d; stationery and rolls, £1 5s lid; printing and competition books, £l 17s Id; printing (Central committee), 13s 8d; sundries, 14s 4d. Credit balance, £577 Ss lid. Table Tennis Club. The weekly practice evening was wet attended. Winners of the buttons for thd evening were: A grade, A. C. Matthews, B grade, Miss M. Butler; C grade. Miss J. Davey; D grade, R. Davey; E grade, Mrs Mitchell. The club will be represented by the following players in a friendly match with the Marton Club to-night (Thursday): K Henson, R. W. Oppatt, Miss L. Gedye, P. Gedye and A. G. Nesbit. The teams to play in the Manawatu Association competitions to-night are as follow: First C team: Miss J. Butler, E. N. Butler, F. Meyer, C. N. Oppatt, T. H. Williams and N. S. ButJer. Second C team: Miss V. Butler, Miss P. Meyer, E. Rowe, J. Coulter, K. M. Pearce, J. F. Bradley.
