WOODVILLE BRANCH OF LABOUR PARTY

Lyttelton M.P. to Tour District Mr. Rossiter presided over a large attendance of members at the monthly meeting of tho Woodville branch of the Labour Party in the Foresters’ Hall, Dannevirke, on August 2. An apology jwas received from Mr. A. Thompson. His position as secretary was filled by ' Mr. Fell. The chairman, Mr. Rossiter, brought forward the question, of Labour’s official paper, the Standard, for discussion, pointing out to members that it was in their interest to take the paper at all times, as it was the mouth-piece of their organisation. The financial position was discussed and found to be satisfactory. The badge issued by the party was selling f reel j among members and supporters. New members were joining up every month. The chairman urged members to still make the branch bigger. Mr. Rossiter extended a welcome to Mr. Hansen, Labour candidate for the electorate, who addressed the meeting on some of the main points of the policy, he said that in the noar future he would be addressing meetings in the district with Mr. T. it. McCombs, M.P. for Lyttelton. The chairman also welcomed Mr. Oliver, the organiser for the electorate, who addressed the meeting on organisation, giving a brief outline of what had been done. The back country had been covered to some extent. The candidates and ho had discussed the policy with a number of farmers and found things satisfactory as far as the farmer was concerned.
