Gold has been dug up in the streets of Greymouth during tho last few days. Workmen employed excavating a deep trench, which is part of the borough sanitation scheme at Blaketown, have brought up on their shovels gold-bearing black sand which, when washed, will invariably yield good ‘ * colours ’ ’ of gold. TIPPED OFF. A Scottish farmer visited tho village school and tested the intelligence of the class by the question: “Now, boys, can any of you tell me what ‘naething’ is?” After a moment’s pause a smart boy xn a back seat rose: “It’s what ye gi’ed me the other day for holding yer horse.”
