Obituary
MRS. M. E. CROOK After a short illness, the death occurred last week of Mrs. Margaret English Crook, 12 College street west, widow of the late Mr. Edward Crook, at the age of 90 years. The deceased lady arrived in New Zealand with her husband and family of five, landing at Wellington on November 8, 1883, by the lonic, eventually settling in Upper Hutt. After residing there for several years they removed to the Eketahuna 1 district, where they engaged in farming. While residing in this district Mrs. Crook was the first woman to be driven over the Pahiatua track by the road contractor in searen of medical aid in a case of sickness. After retiring, Mrs. Crook removed to Palmerston North 35 years ago and resided in College street west. Deceased leaves a family of six daughters and one son—Mesdames T. E. | Mitchell (Palmerston North), R. Bruniton (Auckland), S. McNabb (Palmerjston North), A. Brown (Trentham), N. Fenton (Auckland;, Miss M. Crook (Rotorua), and Mr. J. Crook (Palmerston North), also 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
