Sent for Trial on Negligent Driving Charge
SEQUEL TO DEATH Or ELDERLY MAN • Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Sight. Alexander James Blackburn, garage proprietor, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court to-day with driving negligently in Hereford street on July 2, thereby causing the death oi John Anderson. He also faced charges of failing to stop and give assistance, driving without duo care and attention, and failing to report the accident to the police. On tho first two charges, both of them indictable, he pleaded not guilty and was committed to the fciupreme Court for trial. The other charges were adjourned.
Together with the case against Blackburn the Court held an inquest into tho death of Anderson and a verdict was returned that Andersondeath was due to septic inflammation of the soft tissues following superficial injuries; that these injuries were received when Anderson was struck and knocked down by a car owned and driven by Blackburn. Anderson was 61 years of age. Blackburn was allowed bail cf £2OO.
