into the straight. Ika was in third place ahead of Kohika. Below the distance Tres Sec ran up to Salon and the pair drew away, Tres Sec winning comfortably by a head from Salon. Kohika was third six lengths back and Rover’s Joy was fourth. Informer Just Beats Merry Thought There were eleven starters in the Maiden sprint and the winner was Informer, who hung on to beat Merry Thought by a neck. When the field had settled down the leader was Informer, from Regicide, Segra, Selkirk, Merry Thought, Strolling and Rolling Home. There was not much change crossing the top and Informer and Regicide turned for home followed by Selkirk, Segra and Merry Thought. Informer then drew away from Regicido and Merry Thought was the only one to issue a challenge, Informer reaching the line a neck in front of Merry Thought. Selkirk was four lengths away third and Regicido w’as fourth. with a gap to Rolling Home and Segra. Southern Blood Improves Black Man was favourite for the Hack Hurdles but the winner was Southern Blood who finished very well to catch Aiguille just short of the post. Aiguille was in front from the start and at the second fence Royal Highness fell and broke his neck. The order with a mile to go was Aiguille, Greek Arma, i Southern Blood, Black Man and Forest Glow. There was little change for the next half mile and Southern Blood was within striking distance of the leader at the three where Black Man was also well forward. Over the last fence Aiguille looked a winner but Southern Blood finished too well and ho won a fast run race by a head. Black Man was seven lengths further back and Otaki was fourth. Pukeko Scores from Catalogue and Dorado There was a great finish in the seven furlongs and Pukeko got the verdict by half a length from Catalogue with Dorado close up next. Pakanui was the early leader, giving way to Lapel at the five where Pakanui was followed by Play On and Dorado. The order was mucii the same into the straight and Pukeko and Catalogue were commencing their runs and in a great finish Pukeko won nicely from Catalogue and Dorado and Pakanui was a very good fourth. Play On, after being the leader into the straight, finished fifth.

Salon and Rover’s Joy was first away but going into the back Ika took up the running attended by Salon, Ngaitahu and Rover’s Joy. Salon went to the front passing the three but Tres Sec then moved forward to follow Salon

LEAVE FOR RIOCARTON TO-DAY Catalogue and Royal Limond, from the McDonald stable, and Forest Glow and Pango, from L. Knapp’s stable, leave for Riccarton to-day. Manawatu is not considered forward enough to make the trip, but it is understood he will go north for the Pakuranga Hunt meeting. Easy for Hanover The steeplechase proved the best of good things for Hanover who took charge about three furlongs from home and went on to win by half a dozen lengths from Manawatu, who got up in time to cut Kikiroki out of second money. Kikiroki and Royal Toast set the early pace ahead of Hanover and Manawatu and this order was unchanged for over a round. Five furlongs from home Kikiroki led by a couple of lengths from Hanover and Royal Toast, but Kikiroki hit the next fence and Hanover went past him to lead into the straight followed by Kikiroki, Royal Toast and Manawatu. Safely over the last fence Hanover went on to win as he liked and Kikiroki, hard ridden, could not withstand Manawatu’s challenge, Manawatu beating him by a neck. There was daylight to Royal Toast, who was fourth. Trailer Beats Earl Colossus in Close Finish

There was a good finish in the Hack Clip in which Trailer narrowly beat Earl Colossus and Barley Almond. Warehi lost his rider at the start and Royal Tinge and Trailer made the early pace ahead of Earl Colossus, Royal Record, Southern Blood, Rotoma, Cuisinier and Barley Almond. There was no change as they turned into the back and Entheos began to improve as they ran to the five. Royal Tinge and Trailer were still in front as they turned for home and Earl Colossus and Entheos were next ahead of Southern Blood and Barley Almond. Trailer had the lead at the distance but had to be ridden out to beat Earl Colossus by a short head and Barley Almond was only half a neck away third. Entheos was two lengths back fourth. Royal Tinge and Spender were next. Another Brilliant Pinish by Flying Acre Despite his brilliant finishing effort at Marton, Flying Acre was at a comparatively good price for the concluding event, the hack sprint, but, after tailing the field for four furlongs, he again finished brilliantly and he won going away by over a length from Tom Tom, Mother-in-Law and Shining Hours, who were almost in lino. Haile Selassie was chopped out at the start and others slow to begin were Flying Acre and Reasonable. After two furlongs the leaders were Mother-in-Law and Hunting Lore, from Shining Hours, Haile Selassie, and Bluffer, Tom Tom and Berryman in line. There was not much alteration into the straight where Flying Acre, with a sustained run, collared the others and won going away by over a length. There was a great go for second and Tom Tom, Mother-in-Law afid Shining Hours were almost in line. Haile Selassie, Hunting Lore and Bluffer were next. TROTTING FIXTURES August G, 10, 12: N.Z.
