Oxford Still Wants Masculine Isolation
It is interesting to learn that- at Oxford there is still the old spirit of masculino isolation, and women have to light hard for admission to degrees. To illustrate this, last year's editor of Isis, the Oxford journal, tells the story of 3 recent lecturer, who always addressed his class of men and women undergraduates, /‘Good morning, gentlemen!" Thus, by ignoring them, he expressed his disapproval of women students. To force him to acknowledge the women, the men students decided to stay away one day. Unfortunately, one male misunderstood the plan and turned up. The lecturer entered and said, ‘‘Good morning, gentlemen!" and carried on. Next day, no male students were present. The lecturer remarked, "Ab, I see no one is attending the lecturo to-day"—and walked out. Despite such lingering opposition, there were only five courses at Oxford last year in which women were not competing with men—geology, engineering, agriculture, JXussian and Oriental studies.
