Scout Notes

THE WEEK’S ACTIVITIES Owing to the large amount of correspondence there will bo no general news. On Wednesday, August 10, the annual handball competition will be held in j All Saints’ hall. There is a fino cup for the winner of this event so troops arc advised to go into hard training. Ist Palmerston North (Central) Troop Last Saturday and Tuesday tho Cubs and troop went to Mrs. Barlow’s to practise singing for tho coming concert. At the troop’s last meeting tho Huia patrol won the inspection. Another practise in concert work took up most of the evening. The various patrols then went to their corners for patrol work. A game of handball followed. Final arrangements for tho dress rehearsal of tho concert took up the court of honour meeting. Our work for the concert is now drawing to a close and with dross rehearsals over. The next thing is the big event itself. We are hoping that all Scouters and Scouts will do their best to support it, as we believe it is going to be a real tip top performance. 2nd Palmerston North (Terrace End) Tr.oop Our last meeting on Friday opened with inspection, which was won by the Lion patrol. Tenderfoot badges were presented to J. McConaghty, J. Weston, W. Stevens, S. Stidolph, N. Thompson and B. Holmes. Throughout tho evening ambulance work was carried out and thero were several games. 3rd Palmerston North (West End) Troop A good parade was held last week whon 29 boys were present. During the week R. Harriss and Max Hambling had passed their second class badge and al. boys who had their second class badge had been tutored for tho electrician badge by Mr. J. Dixon. Tenderfoot, second class a. 7 ambulance work were carried out during the night. The Kingfisher and Bull patrols aro tho leaders for the patrol competition shield. A parade of 32 Scouts was held in the West End school hall for the previous week’s meeting. Tho Kingfisher patrol won the inspection and the shield goes to them to hold for another month. The Commissioner (Mr. Stubbs) was present with Hawke-Eyc (Mr. Callis) and inspected the troop. E. Lucinsky has now passed his tenderfoot badge and L. Murray was presented with his tenderfoot badge last Monday night. A new patrol named tho Hawko patrol was formed. K. Wynks was made patrol leader and J. Storey second. All Saints’ Troop At the meeting of tho troop held on Friday, July 22, it was announced that a combined church parade was to be held on Sunday. After inspection games of handball were played. Following tbis an instruction was given is ambulance work. The meeting closed with a game of dodge-ball. 7th Palmerston North (Takaro) Troop In the absence of the Scouter, who is indisposed, G. S. M. Sweetman, of Central, took charge last Thursday and we had second class first aid, followed by tenderfoot work, signalling and games. Bth Palmerston Njorth (St. Paul’s) Troop The meeting was opened with a game of indoor baseball after which * ‘ corners” were held. Dcerfoot (S.M.) outlined the items for the concert which is to bo held it the near future. The court of honour was held later.
