From Our Own Correspondent. Rifle Shooting, On Saturday, the first shoot between Kiwitea, Horowhenua and Alanawatu Rifle Associations wes fired on the Ashhurst range, in glorious weather. Brilliant shooting was recorded by 11. A. Jones and Al. I'’itzherbert, of the Alanawatu team, tho former making 103, with a possible at 600yds., and the latter 101 with possibles at 500 and 600 yds. Jones’ score betters l the range record on the count back at 600 yards. In the teams match, the Kiwi--1 tea team was successful in winning the Witcomba and Caldwell Cup, but wSre extremely lucky, as two of tho Horowhenua team’s best men registered shots : on the wrong targets and spoilt their team’s aggregate. At the conclusion of the match a discussion took place regarding future competitions and district matters. Tho next shoot is to bo held on Saturday, February 4, 1939. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the secretary, Air R. A. Jones, for his efforts in bringing the competition about. A vote of thanks was also- accorded the president, Air W. G. Romley, and the ladies, Airs R. A. Jones, Aiiss Beth Romley and Aiiss Fitzherbert, who were in charge of the eatei-ing arrangements. The teams comprised ten men a side, and seven shots were fired, with two optional sigliters over ranges of 300, GOO and 500 yds., in that order. There were three possibles made at 600yds and two at 500 yds. The scores were as follow: Kiwitea.

A teams match was also fired over the 500yds. range between an Ashhurst team and a team from the Linton District Aliniaturo Club, Ashhurst winning by 31 points. A match was also fired between tho Ashhurst Broadlands team and the Linton Tepuna team, Tepuna winning by d points. Results were as follow: Ashhurst: J. B. Searle, R. A. Jones 34, T. Romley, K. Romley, J. Henson 33, W. G. Romley, F. Bassett 31, C. Turner 30; total 259. Linton Aliniature: O. Terry 33, R. Craw, J. Christensen, M. Trembath 32, L. Wilson 30, R. Batchelor 29, G. Alerryman 25, H. Rix 15; total 225. Tepuna: (J. Terry 33, R. Craw 30, L. Wilson 30, G. Alerryman 25; total 120. Broadlands: T. Romley 33. C. Turner 30, C. Ralph 25, E. AlcCrae 23; total 111. Others who fired were F. Booking 34, L. Wotton 31, K. Bassett 30.
