Manawatu Heads
From Our Own Correspondent. A ceremony of interest to Palmerston North and Manawatu Heads residents took place at the Methodist Church, Foxton, on Sunday afternoon, the occasion being the christening of the infant daughter of Mr and Mrs A. K. Dando, Manawatu Heads. The officiating minister was Rev. R. Grice, of Foxton. Little Janet Cherie, who was dressed in the robes previously worn by her father at his own christening, was held by him during the ceremony, and behaved in an exemplary manner. She also wore a gold bangle the gift of her aunt, Miss Phyllis Webby. Whangarei. Latex”, a quiet family party celebrated the event at the residence o: the parents, and the christening cake—a tier from their wedding cake—was cut, and the usual toasts were honoured. Air and Mrs T. Hocking, Palmerston North, grandparents, were unable to be presen: owing to the indisposition of Mrs HockThere was a fair attendance at the Beach hall on Friday evening for the fortnightly euchre and dance held under the auspices of the Labour Party. The prize-winners were: Ladies, Mrs T. Chafley (Foxton) and Mr H. Hartley (playing as a lady), divided first prize; men, Air Stackhouse 1, Air T. Sands 2. The weather lias been mainly fine, with occasional sharp frosts. Wnitebait is again searce, owing to the presence of “snow-water” in the river. Air and Mrs S. ltosvall and family, late of Palmerston North, are taking up their residence here indefinitely. Air Rosvali’s medical adviser has ordered him to take a complete rest from business for a lengthy period. Airs T. Sim and family have removed to Eltliarn, prior to joining Air Sim in Wellington. Air Alan Sim was recently the recipient of a framed certificate presented by the Royal Humane Society in recognition of his brave attempt to rescue the late Air Angus AlcPhail from drowning. The checking of the survey work in pre-pai-ation for the formation and tarsealing of the Foxton-Beach highway is almost completed. Progress is now noticeable in the minor alterations to the route, on which a small gang of men Is employed.
