NINE RUNS TO MAKE WHEN RAIN STOPS PLAY Requiring 105 to win, Brown and Fingleton opened Australia’s second innings. The former got bis leg in front to Pame3 after scoring nine and the first wicket fell at 18. Bradman followed, but with 30 on the board be lost Pingleton and McCabe filled the vacancy. Neither stayed long and four wickets wero down for 64. Hassett and Badcock struggled desperately for runs, carrying the score to 90. Hassett at 33 skied a ball to Edrich who took a good catch. Five wickets were now down for 91. Barnett was next. The light was now very bad and rain was falling. With only nine runs to go, Hammond successfully appealed against the rain and the players left the field. After a short adjournment Badcock and Barnett resumed. With the score at 99 Fames came on again to bowl to Barnett who with a succession of glorious square cuts
