Oroua Downs

From Our Own CorresDonaent. The club-house proved the most popular place last week-end when all golr players turned up to compete in a stroke handicap for the Nichols Cup. Only two players braved the elements long enough to complete the 18 holes, and this game resulted in a win for R. A. Nichols, 2 up, against J. R. Veale. Both Dlayers turned on some good golf and thoroughly enjoyed the round. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies’ captain, Mrs A. T. Nichols. The week-end was the coldest and wettest for some considerable time, but the links are in fairly good order, as the rains soak away very quickly. The ladies’ competition was the second round of a stroke handicap for the captain’s medal and this was won by Mrs S. Howard with a net 138. Mrs Pedersen was the winner of tho medal round with a nett 63. The ladies’ draw for next week-end for the second qualifying round of the championship, is as follows: Miss M. Scott and Miss Gleeson; Mrs Nichols and Mrs Connell; Miss M. Christensen and Mrs Veale; Mrs Raikes and Miss Pedersen; Mrs Shailer and Mrs Conlan; Miss Gates and Miss Sexton; Mrs Pedersen and Mis Jarvis; Mrs Howard and partner. Personal and General. Mr C. Veale and family were visitors to the Downs for the week-end. Mrs F. A. Mills is home again after her recent illness.. The following boys have been picked from the local school football team to represent Te Kawau against Palmerston North: K. Sim, G. Thompson, T. Olliver and A. Veale. After this game, the primary team to represent Manawatu will be picked. The cheese factory is working every second day and all members of the staff j are busy preparing for a big season this coming year.
