Saturday Afternoon Wedding At Baptist Church

LEWIS—GROVER The Baptist Church, Palmerston j North, was the scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday* afternoon, when Elspeth, only daughter of Air and Airs F. Grover, junr., of Palmerston North, was married to James, youngest son of Air J. Lewis, of Ashburton, and the late Airs Lewis. Tho ceremony, which was fully choral, was performed by Rev. J. C. Alacky, tho organist being Aliss L. Lewis, sister of tho bridegroom. The church was beautifully decorated for the occasion with pink camellias, by Mian N. Grover, cousin of the bride. The bride wore a simply made frock of deep cream satin, cut on princess lines, with a square neck edged with pearls, and long sleeves, close-fitting to the wrists. The bodice was embroidered with a true lovers’ knot in pearls and the train was also embroidered with true lovers’ knots. Her deep cream veil, lent by a friend, was embroidered with lilies and held in place by a coronet of orange blossoms which had been worn by her mother as a bride. A spray of orange blossoms also finished the back of tho headdress. She carried a bouquet of white with touches of pink, composed mainly of winter roses, heath and cyclamens. The bride was attended by two bridesmaids, Aliss E. Valentine, of Wellington (chief), and Aliss N. Lewis, of Ashburton (sister of tho bridegroom). Their frocks were made in Victorian style or pink embossed georgette over peach satin, with bertha collars and crinoline skirts niched at the knee and hem. Sashes of fuchsia velvet were worn, also halos of plaited fuchsia velvet They carried fuchsia toned bouquets. Tho best man was Air L. Grover, and the groomsman Air J. Tucker, of Ashburton.

During the signing of the register Mrs D. Frost rendered a vocal solo. After leaving tho vestry, tho bride was presented with an autographed album by her nephew and niece, Raymond and Dorothy Grover. The guests were asked to sign their names in the album.

A reception was later held iu the Jade Tearooms, where tho tables bore vases of pink camellias. Mr and Mrs Grover received the guests, the latter wearing clover embroidered cloque, with | a clover liat and bouquet to tone. Miss Lewis, who assisted, wore a rust frock with a brown coat and hat, and carried a toning bouquet. Guests were present from Ashburton, Wellington, Timaru, and Wanganui. The loyal toast was proposed by Rev. J. 0. Alacky, that of the bride and bridegroom by Rev. C. Matthews, and that of the bridesmaids Dy tne bridegroom. About 40 telegrams conveying good wishes were reay.. The happy couple later left by car for tho north, the bride wearing a cherry Afghan wool frock, trimmed with black braid. She wore a cherry coloured hat, and carried a black astrakhan coat, with accessories to tone. Air and Airs Lewis will make their future home at Ashburton.
