Countess Baldwin’s Advice to Girls
Countess Baldwin of Bewdlev, when opening new* school buildings at a girls’ school, said that they had seen many striking things in tho course of modern advancement, but none, more striking than the education of the modern girl. She herself looked back on a girlhood that- was rather melancholy in retrospect, because, according to present-day standards of education, she did not think she could have been educated at all. “I often wonder what you are going to do with the world that is open to you,” sho remarked. “I hope it will include, among other things, what I think is tho best part of life—the life at home. “I would ask you to cultivate loyalty, loyalty to God, to your country, to your home, and to mankind. If you do this you will be able to face future generations with your standard high, and you will not only be a pleasant 'memory but an inspiration to those who come after you.”
