From Our Own CorresD^na^iit. The annual Sunday school treat for those attending the undenominational Sunday schools of Shannon and Malterua was held on Saturday last. At o P-ni. about 120 children sat down for tea. This was set out on long tables, decorated With tall and short vases of yellow jonquils, Iceland poppies and blue irises, ana bountifully laden with good things. Jne Bible class children had a table to tnemaelvees with named places. After tea, games were played until 7 p.m.. '"hen the children entertained the grown-ups with a programme of recitations, songs, dialogues and a playette in costume by the Bible class members. The accompaniments were played by Richard Lind, Mrs Carter ana Mrs R. Lind. At the conclusion of the programme. Mr J. Moir (Levin) congratulated the children on the success of their items and then proceeded to present the prizes won during the past year. Little Margaret Sinclair handed Mrs R. Lind, the superintendent of the Shannon Sunday school, a posy of violets and daphne, m recognition of her inLerest in the children. There were twenty-two children from Mukerua present, who are taught ami were trained for tlicir part of the programme by Mrs R. Whitehead and Mrs 11. Trier. On Saturday morning the Shannon school basketball A team journeyed to Foxton and played a team from the Fo::ton District High School. It was a very even game throughout, the good work of Shannon’s defenders preventing Foxton from registering a larger score. The hnul goal for Shannon was scored just a second before time and provided a thrilling finifn to the game, which ended Shannon 7, High School 4. Goals for Shannon were thrown by Doreen McMeekintr <3), Shirlej Gunning (3), and Ngunu Hikarriatu (1). Personal and General. Mr A. Addley and Mr H. Harrington, both of Wellington, were the guests of Mr and Mrs J. A. Wilkinson over the weekend. Mr and Mrs C. Brickley and family leave Shannon for Eltham to-day (Thursday).
