“There is no provision in the Counties Act, nor in any Act Or regulation administered by the Transport Depart ment, giving tho power of arrest to a traffic inspector,” said Air. G. E. Stokees, traffic inspector of the Waimairi County Council, commenting on a recent statement by the chief traffic inspector (Air. J. Bruorton) that though traffic inspectors appointed by county councils had not this authority, they could obtain it. ‘‘The only power under the existing legislation for the appointment of inspectors is in terms of a section of the Alunicipal Corporations Act which covers only the employees of city councils and borough councils. Until th 9 law is amended it is only these inspectors, sworn in as special constables, who have tho power to arrest,” concluded Air. Stokes.
