Pleasant Social Afternoon at St. Andrew’s Ladies’ Guild

St. Andrew’s Hall was brightly decorated for the monthly meeting of St. Andrew’s Ladies’ Guild yesterday when vases of yellow and tangerine Iceland poppies and dainty baskets of pink camellias and autumn foliage decorated the tables. A tiny basket of mauve stylosi, pink Iceland poppies, roses and fern graced the president’s table. The president, Mrs. M. Aitchison, in welcoming those iiresent said the gathering wg.s to be informal and abjured members to enter for the various competitions on the programme. Also present was Rev. J. Hubbard, M.A., 8.D., an apology for absence being received from Mrs. Hubbard. Mesdames K. McDonald, J. A. Mitchell and D. J. Lovelock welcomed members and visitors at the door. A dainty afternoon tea was served by Mesdames E. A. Cooper, W. Duffel, P. Clarke, R. C. Donald, G. C. Cooper, J. Campion, J. G. Collins, J. Cody, T. Stringer, and Miss M. Caldow. A number of ladies whoso names were drawn by ballot, were privileged to share the president’s table. A competition arranged by Mrs. J. Murray was won by Mrs. W. Bigham. Adding to the afternoon’s pleasure were vocal solos by Mrs. Bigham, selfaccompanied and further enjoyment was provided by accordeon medleys by MrS. Bangay, and songs by Miss Marjorie Millar, accompanied by Miss Lola Buick. The afternoon’s programme was brought to a close with recitations by Miss Marjorie Millar. Mrs. Aitchison called the members’ attention to the new blue curtains which the executive had put up. They would give the hall a more homely and finished appearance, she said, and would also improve the acoustics. Mrs. Aitchison also mentioned that a couch hal been installed in the vestry for the convenience of church-goers. Members were reminded that the annual meeting of the guild would be held next month. Mrs. D. J. Lovelock said “ thank you” to the performers for the pleasure they had given and Mrs. Aitchison thanked tho door hostesses and the afternoon tea helpers.
