Friday evening again saw a good attendance of card players for the second euchre and dance held in the hall under the auspices of the Manawatu Heads branch of the Labour Party. The points secured during play were the first in the allocation of points for the end of the season aggregate prize. Mr P> Smith was the winner in the men’s section, with Mr F. Hartley runner-up. Ladies’ prizes resulted: Mrs McPhail 1, Mr H. Hartley (playing as lady) 2. After supper, dancing was continued until piidnight. Mr J. Smith carried out the duties of M.C.. The visitors were accorded a warm welcome by a genuinely surprised host and hostess' Enjoyable games of cards were played, the ladies challenging the gentlemen. and honours were practically even. Supper was dispensed by the visitors, after which Mr Alsop thanked those present for their good wishes and expressed the pleasure the evening had given both himself and Mrs Alsop. He said he hoped it would be repeated on the occasion of his next birthday. |
