Flight-Lieutenant William Forster the eldest son of Mr. Godfrey N. Pharazyn, a well known sheep farmer, of Waewaepu, Dannevirkc. He is the second son belonging to the R.A.F. who haß been killed when flying in England, a young brother of deceased, Peter, being killed in a crash in 1932 near Canterbury, Kent, on his sister’s wedding day Tho late Air. William Forster Pharft* zyu was born in Feilding and left lor England when 14 years of age for cdu- 1 cation at Eton. He did well there and for two years was in the shooting eight and played for his house in practically all games. In 1920, he went to Trinity College, Cambridge, and there for lour years he captained tho ’Varsity golf team. In 1924, he also took secondclass honours in physics tripos. After leaving Cambridge he came to New Zealand and joined the staff of Alessrs Johnston and Co., Wellington, but mercantile life not appealing to him, he returned to England where he joined up in 1928 with the R.A.F. with a temporary commission. After three years he was invited to sit an examination lor % a permanent commission in which he came out top, aud was then sent up for a specialised engineering course, also coming out in first place, receiving one of two engineering stars given each year. Two years ago he went to the staff college at Andover, but while waiting to take up his position he was given highly confidential work for the Air Ministry, specialising in aerial tactics. He then spent a year on the staff of th 9 college. Recently he was appointed to a Hawker lighting squadron stationed at Church Fenton, Yorkshire. Deceased leaves a widow, who is a daughter of Sir Byron and Lady V Peters, also a young son and daughter aged five and three respectively.
