Despite the wintry conditions, there were just on 100 people present at Ashhurst on Saturday evening for the monthly meeting of the Manawatu L.R.G., there being representatives From BUnnythorpc, Feiiding, Glen Oroua, Rongotea, Sanson, Awahuri. Halcombe and from Ashhursl itself. In tho absence of tho district chairman, Mr Oliver, the chair waft taken by the vice-president, Mr A. Carroll. Members are very enthusiastic and after the meetings of tho general committee, together with the sub-committees, an ILenary of events will b 6 published in tho papers. Thero are to be threo queens, the Eastern, Western and Central, the latter taking in tho Feiiding district and Ilalcombe; tho Eastern, Aplti, Milson. Bunnythorpe, Longburn; and ihe Western. Glen Oroua Bainesse, Tangimokna, Sanson and other branches round these areas. The meeting was unanimous in deoirine a letter of appreciation being sent to the Prime Minister for his very extensive tour of the district. An apology was received from Mr C. L. Hunter, who was unable to be present, but Mrs Hunter was present and assisted the ladies in their deliberations. The Ashhurst. ladies dispensed supper,. The next meeting of the L.R.C. will bo held at Rongotea on July 30. School Oport. The local school tried conclusions with teams from Long-burn this week, tho local girls travelling to .Longburn. where they wore successful In winning their basketball game, while the boys played theit football match on the homo ground, defeating the Longburn ream. National Party. Mr V. Jewell, ol Feiiding, was the speaker at a meeting of tho Rongotea branch of tho National Party held In Rongotea on Saturday evoning. H rged all members to help tho campaign ... being active members of the party the day of the election and not let their interest cease. Following his address, he answered niariy questions on party affairs. Mr Jewell was heartily -thanked by the chairman, Mr D. B. 11 owe, Mr E. Arnott and others present also voicing their appreciation. It, has been arranged for Mr J. Power to attend at an early date to deliver an address. Representatives of tho Rongotea branch to attend the annual meeting of the Manawatu electorate committeo arc Messrs W. Gloyn, F. Burgess, E. J. Arhott, C. Hunt, ft. O. Gloyn, E. Gust and Mesdauaes L>. B. Rowe, M. Will, M. Bower and W. Davis. Mr D. B. Rowe was elected delegate to tho electoral executive committee. Regret was expressed at tho absence from the meeting, through indisposition, or tne secretary, Mr It. o. Gloyn. Personal. Mrs S. Davison, of Wellington, formerly Miss R. Lyons, has been on a round o' visits to old friends in Rongotea.
