Well-known Lady Dies of Injuries

Mrs. E. C. Riddiford Knocked Down by Van

GREAT SERVICE DURING WAR Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Fatal head injuries were received by Mrs. Eleanor Caroline Riddiford, widow of Edward Joshua Riddiford, when she was knockod down by a van while crossing the road to her home at Lower Hutt at about 5.40 this evening.

Mrs. Riddiford was unconscious when picked up and died at her home two hours later without regaining consciousness.

Mrs. Riddiford, who was the daughter of an early Wellington pioneer, the late Henry Bunny, former depdtySuperintendent of the Wellington province, was born in 1861. She married in 1879 and with the exception of a few years in Eugland lived all her life at Lower Hutt. Mrs. Riddiford was well known for her acts of charity. During the war she did great service at Walton-on-Thames, and London. Mrs. Riddiford is survived by her brother, Mr. E. P. Bunny, of Lower Hutt, and an adult family of five—Mrs. Lindsay (Scotland), Mr. Daniel Riddiford (Featherston), Mr. Eric Riddiford (Orongo Orongo), Mrs. Liddiard (England) and Mrs. Dudley Kettle (Napier). Two sons, Mr. Vivian Riddiford and Mr. Lionel Riddiford, predeceased her.
