Road Racing
15 MILES FIRST RACE GOOD PERFORMANCES ON SATURDAY A large and most encouraging field of about 20 riders faced the starter on Saturday afternoon for the first bicycle road race under the auspices of the Woodville Amateur Athletic Club. A number of the riders came from Danncvirke and Pahiatua, to use the ride chiefly for training purposes, and the local men will similarly compete in races run by thoso centres. The route was roughly 15 miles from Woodville via Ngawapurua, Hopelands and Kumeroa, and back again. C. Oliver (smin.) finished first about 200yds. from A. Matson (6min.), of Pahiatua. R. Wilson (3min.), of Dannevirke, was third. Fastest time was made by F. Wilson, off scratch, who , rode the distance in 38min. 50sec. and | was closely followed by E. Redwood, ofj Dannevirke, who was only one-fifth of I a second behind him.
