WESTERN STATE WINS EIGHT-OAR TITLE PEARCE AGAIN WINS SINGLE SCULLS United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyrlgnt. MELBOURNE, May 7. The Australian eight-oar championship race for the King’s Cup resulted: Western Australia 1, New South Wales 2, Tasmania 3. Western Australia’s thorough training and physical fitness counteracted the polish of their rivals. Western Australia and New South Wales from the start forged ahead of the other State crews and the winners had only a canvas to spare when passing the finishing line. There were four lengths between second and third and the time for the distance of two and a-half miles was fourteen minutes, thirteen seconds. The Australian amateur sculling championship was retained by C. Pearce (New South Wales), who easily beat Purves (Victoria) and Ninham (Soutl Australia).
