Returned Soldiers’ Executive

MOVE TO TEND GRAVE OF ACCIDENT VICTIM At the usual monthly meeting of the executive of the Woodville and District R.S.A., the president (Mr. W. Galbraith) presided over Messrs D. Keay, T. S. R. Schaw, P. S. Broughton, A. W. Cork, C. Ware, J. J. Young, A. K. Boyd, F. Mackie (secretary), C. Hares, J. Charles and G. Wickes. A motion of sympathy to- the parents of the late Ken Forbes was carried in silence. Among the correspondence was a letter from the War Relief Association, Napier, stating that it was not satisfied with the branch’s administration of affairs in Woodville and suggesting a meeting between it and the local R.S.A. committee to consider amalgamation with Dannevirke. This meeting had been held, it was reported, and had strongly opposed amalgamation. The present meeting endorsed this action. The statement of the finances for the month disclosed a collection of £3 11s 6d at the Anzac service and a profit of £ll 15s on the concert. It was decided to formally thank the manager of the Cosy Theatre, Mr. Wickes, the secretary and the visiting entertainers for their contributions towards the marked success of the evening. Dates were set for the big social events of the R.S.A. ’w year, the annual reunion which is set down for July 16, and the annual ball which is to be held on June 22. For this latter, elaborate arrangements are in hand and are under the care of a sub-committee comprised of Messrs Young, Wickes and Charles. It was decided to write to the Minister of Internal Affairs asking for a postponement of the draw of the association’s art union owing to the difficulty of getting the return of the books from district associations whose assistance had been asked. The committee was approached by Schaw as a delegate from the Chess < Club, which is seeking the use of one of the club rooms for its meetings. The request was granted, but the question of the night most suitable was held over in the meantime. It was reported that the sale of poppies realised the sum of £ls 4s this year, which is slightly lower than the amount last year. The meeting decided to endeavour to have a headstone and kerbing erected. over the grave of the late Mr. J. A. Wilson, a returned soldier, who was killed in a motor accident a short time ago. Mr. Mackie reported the finding of an old pocket book in the club building, which contained two discharge certificates of one Francis James Price. No. 10/903. Private Price was first discharged, probably as an invalid, in November, 1915, but had joined up again to be finally demobilised in 1919. by which time he held the rank of senior sergeant.
