MANAWATU CENTRAL CLUB With the tennis season nearing au end many keen badminton players are eagerly awaiting the opening of the badminton season. Notwithstanding the comparative infancy of this strenuous winter sport, each succeeding year shows a decided increase in its popularity. Indications are for another highly successful year for the Manawatu Central Club. On last year's performances members of this club have every rea-. son to be proud of their achievements for in annual tournament between Wellington, Wairarapa, Hawke's Bay, Wanganui and Manawatu, Manawatu Central Club furnished five of the 12 Manawatu representatives, these being Messrs. Wairarapa, Manawatu Central was represented by Messrs. R. Hill, W. R. J. Jensen, R. Duncalf, and Misses P. Rodden, N. Orchard. At the western districts tourney held at Wanganui, our players upheld the club when Messrs. W. R. J. Jensen and R. Duncalf reached the final of the men's championship doubles and Misses P. Rodden and M. Pawson (Wanganui) reached the final of the ladies' championship doubles. Miss P. Rodden won the ladies' handicap singles. Mr. C. Sherrin won the men's first year championships with E. Dr. Dean presided at the annual meeting of the Palmerston North Badminton Club last night and others present were Mrs. Rotheray, Misses R. Liddell, V. Sherriff, Gordon, M. Rogers, B. Brooker, and Messrs. Haythorne, R. Rotheray, A. Barnett, J. Rosenoski, J. Shand, J. C. Young and J. T. McDonald (secretary). The resignations of Dr. Hooper, Mr. T. W. Henderson and Mrs. Robertson were accepted with regret. The offer by the A. and P. Association of the use of the hall at the Showground for the coming season under the same conditions as previously was accepted and it was also decided that use be made if possible of the motor hall during the week-ends or when there was an extra large number of players. Dr. Dean was re-elected president for the forthcoming season, Dr. Jacobs and Mr, Rotheray vice-presidents, and Misses Rogers, Brooker, Sherriff, Liddell and Mr. Barnett the committee. Messrs. Morton and McDonald were elected delegates to the Badminton Association and Mr. McDonald was reelected secretary and treasurer. It was agreed that the selector and club captain be incorporated in the one person. Previously no person had occupied such a position but it was thought that such a departure be followed in the coming season. Mr. Barnett was selected for the position. Messrs. Barnett and Rotheray were also selected coaches for club members for the season.

The matter of selecting a blazer, club colours and a monogram was left in the hands of the committee. The membership fees for the season were arranged at 25s for seniors and 17s 6d for juniors under eighteen, while 2s 6d was decided upon as the fee for supper. The membership fee for members playing one day a week would be 15s. The official opening night would be on April 21. The Australian badminton team, while on tour of New Zealand, would visit Palmerston North and be guests of the club on July 2. It was suggested that club members avail themselves of an invitation by the Levin Club to attend a tournament on the day of their official opening, April 11.
