Dominion Produce For Britain

Principle of Regulation Accepted BY EMPIRE PRODUCERS’ CONFERENCE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copjrriabt > Received Monday, 11.10 pan. SYDNEY, April 4. The Empire Producers’ Conference to-day accepted with a slight modification the British proposals or regulating the flow of Dominion produce into Britain. The resolution as adopted recommends Empire producers to cooperate to establish Commodity Councils on the lines of the Empire Beef Council and the International Beef Conference created under the British Livestock Industry Act, 1937. The duty of these councils will be to advise their constituent organisations regarding the flow of supplies to the United Kingdom. The resolution accepted the Ottawa order of preference, giving the local producer first place on the Home market, the Dominion producer second and the foreign producer third. The Commodity Councils will be expected to institute a continuing survey of market supplies and conditions and in consultation with Empire ministers shall take the necessary action to secure expansion of existing and creation of new markets.

The delegates were the guests of the Prime Minister (Mr. J. A. Lyons) at Canberra over the weekend. Major Waite (New Zealand) to-day described the capital as the most wonderful garden city in the world and a complete revelation to the New Zealand delegation.
