Bridge Over Pastures
To Remove Flood Menace
Old Gives Way To New
All over the Dominion road works are being carried out under the supervision of the Public Works Department but nowhere is there any project quite so interesting, unusual or of such importance as the Whirokino deviation and trestle bridge just south of Foxton on the main highway which runs up the West Coast from Wellington to Auckland. The last portion of New Zealand’s chief roadway to be removed from the menace of flood waters which impede the stream of motor lorries, service cars and private vehicles during winter months, is now being made an all-weather route by a means which must be unique in road construction in this country.
