Car Plunges Over 100-foot Bank
TWO MEN SERIOUSLY HURT While motoring on the MastertonWeber road some two and a-haif miles from Pongaroa on Sunday evening a ear which was driven by Mr. P. Udy went off the road and dropped 100 feet into a creek bed below. Mr. Udy with Mr. J. Kinivun was proceeding towards Tiraumea when the car got into a water-tablo at tho side of the road and continued along this for some distance until it came to the mouth of a culvert which it mounted, causing the car to dive over the side of the bank. Mr. Udy luckily managed to jump clear, but Mr. Kinivan was unfortunately inside the car which turned over several times before landing in tho creek below. Mr. Udy managed to extricate him before crawling for help to the toil of the bank where a motorist lent aid. The tw’o injured men were taken to the cottage hospital at Pongaroa where they were attended to until Dr. Watson, of Pahiatua, and the ambulance arrived. Both men were conveyed to the Pahiatua Public Hospital, and it is reported that Mr. Kinivan is suffering from a fractured spine. It is believed that Mr, Udy’s injuries are of an internal nature. Both men were conscious when admitted to hospital.
