A Coming-of-age And an Engagement
The coming-of-age dance arranged by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Donovan, of Amesbury street, Palmerston North, was a happy occasion for the guest of honour, Miss Barbara Donovan, for besides the customary happenings , of a twenty-first birthday, an interesting announcement was that of her engagement to Mr. Thomas Holt, of Auckland. St. Patrick’s HaU presented a gay scene with its hundred or more guests, and a very jolly evening was spent in dancing to music supplied by a professional orche'stra.
Mr. G. W. Mills proposed the toast of the engaged couple and presented the key of the house to Barbara, in the unavoidable absence, through ill-health, of Mr. Donovan. Mr. Holt responded, and thanked every one for the way the toast had been received and for the good wishes extended. An enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne. ’ *
