Rare Stamp Discovered In Holland
A rare example of the penny orange Mauritius stamp, which is expected to realise about £4OOO, has been discovered in Holland. It formed part of a picture made of old stamps, showing a man and a woman in & carriage drawn by a horse. Part of the horse's body was represented by the orange Mauritius.
The picture belonged to a clergyman "ho presented it to his charwoman. She sold it for twopence, and it was resold for 3s to a butcher. He in his turn sold it for £670, under an agreement that he further received 25 per cent, of any excess over that figure on resale.
One of the most famous Mauritius stamps in the collection of the late King George V was an unused twopenny blue which was purchased for £1450.
