Removed from where it was parked in Princess street, Palmerston North, between 8.10 and 9.25 o’clock on Friday evening, a sedan car owned by Mr. D. M. Mitchell, F.R.C.S., was later recovered on the Palmerston North-Woodville road. Two yoi!ng men are believed to have been involved in the unlawful conversion of the vehicle, but they made good their escape when a passing motorist, Mr. H. B. Webster ,of Palmerston North, recognised the vehicle and stopped it. Mr. Webster had been advised by the Woodville police to look out for the car, and when he saw it he drove slowly in front of it, compelling it to stop. Before he could alight, however, two young men jumped from Mr. Mitchell’s car and disappeared in the darkness. Mr. Mitchell was not only concerned about the loss of his car when he reported the matter to the police; in the vehicle were medical and surgical instruments to the value of £2OO. These also have been recovered. Lock of Garage Sawn Off.

Following upon the recovery of Mr. Mitchell’s car, Air. A. J. Rigden, the bridgekeeper at Ngawapurua, reported on .Sunday to the police that during •Saturday night his garage had been broken into and an Austin seven car taken. Entry was gained by sawing off the lock with a hacksaw. The car is painted dark blue and has the registered number 26 —886.
