The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned and are for representative parcels of the goods sold on Thursday, March 31. Chilled beef prices are averages of tho week on which this list is issued. All prices are on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market:—
New Zealand Sheep.—Crossbred wethers and/or maiden ewes, 48/under 5 7-Sd (5 7-8 d last week), 49/56 sJtl (SM), 57/64 5 l-8d (5 1-Sd), 65/72 43d (4£d); ewes, 48/under, 4 l-8d (4Jd) 49/56 3 5-Sd (33d), 57/64 3M (3*d), 65/72 3id (3 3-Sd). New Zealand Lambs.—Canterbury: 36/under 7 l-8d (7 l-8d), 37/42 7 l-8d (7 1-Sd), 43/50 7d -(6 7-8 d). Second quality: Average about 31 7d (7d). Other South Island: 36/under 7£d (7 1-Sd), 37/42 7 l-8d (7 1-Sd), 43/50 7d (7d). North Island Downs: 36/under 7-id (7 1-Sd), 37/42 7 l-8d (7 1-Sd), 43/50 7d (7d). Lamb market: Tendency of market is firmer with prices for some grades slightly better. Consumption excellent for the time of year. Mutton market: Wethers, steady on the short stocks. Ewes, easier owing to poor demand. Beef market: Frozen beef firm on short spot stocks. Chilled beef again easier owing to heavy supplies. New Zealand porker pigs: Market quiet and unchanged. New Zealand baconer pigs: Market steady and unchanged.
