Popular Fixture Well Attended

Under glorious weather conditions, excellent organisation marked the fifteenth annual fixture of the Sandon Sports Club, held at the recreation grounds, Sanson, on Saturday. Increased entries'w'ere received and a record attendance was a tribute to those on whose shoulders the organisation and control of the gathering rested. Visitors were present from Palmerston North, Marton, Feilding, Bulls, Wanganui and Wellington. Among those present were Mr. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, and Mr. C. L. Hunter, M.P. Competition was keen and interesting for the various shields, and particularly the hurdle and novelty events, while tho ball games proved very popular with tho public and the children. The re-introduction of senior events proved an outstanding success, end excellent fields faced tho starter (Mr. C. E. J. Eglinton) in practically all these events.

Levin District High School won tho McKelvie shield by a comfortable margin from Ivopane. Sanson School annexed the Ilornblow shield by a narrow margin from Kopane, reversing tho last year's position. Tho FaganHenson shield was won by Carnarvon A team, last year's winner, Awahuri School, not defending their title. The 10Q yards championship events for the Fagan cups were won by: Girls, J. Bush (Tokorangi) and boys, C. Kero (Tokorangi). The champion of champions races for the Ailcen Nix and the Drew Cups, were won by J. Bush (Tokorangi), girls, and T. Oliver (Oroua Downs), boys. Tho Arnott rose bowl for field events was secured by Tokorangi, who secured a total of 13 points out of a possible 14. Congratulations were extended to Mr. T. Amadio, the teacher at Tokorangi, for his school’s success in those events, the results showing the value of sound training methods. Tho Hanson Old Boys rose bowl was annexed by Kopane School. The Dwyer challenge cup for Highland dancing (14 years and under) was secured by Yvonne Nicholsen, the judge remarking that her dancing was one of the highlights in the section. Competitors commented very favourably on the work of the judgo of the dancing, Mr. J. Stewart, of Tangimoana. At the conclusion of the gathering the president, Mr. A. K. Drew, expressed his plcasuro at such a lino attendance of the public and children. Ho thanked the officials for their splendid co-opera-tion, and congratulated the teachers of the various competing schools for the excellent standard of sport shown throughout the day. Telegrams of good wishes were received from Mr. A. Anderson (Manurew r a), one of the foundation members; Mr. S. L. Orr, (secretary of tho club), who is at present away on his honeymoon, and from Mr. Parry, M.P. A particularly pleas-' ing incident occurred when Mr. A. Sanson, a foundation member, and Mr. D. McDowell met, having not seen each other since competing at sports meetings 45 years ago. .The details of points gained in the three shield events are as follow: McKelvie Shield.
