Palmerston North Golf Club

ANNUAL REPORT. 1 ‘ The revenue account shows an excess of income over expenditure of £oos 19s Bd, a satisfactory result, ” states the annual report of the Palmerston North Golf Club to be presented at the annual meeting on March 21. “The position of the Club is very sound and the indebtedness which may be spread over the next nine years of the Club’s tenure of the links, is well within its means to liquidate. When it is realised that the club is now in possession of a course second to none in the district, with a modern and eminently suitable clubhouse, and a machinery plant capable of maintaining the links in firstclass conditions, it will be seen that it is very happily situated. ‘‘Many improvements to the course were effected during the year. Extensive planting was carried out and in this connection the club’s thanks are due to Mr A. Just and the City Council for gifts of trees and shrubs. A large drainage scheme entailing the use of some two miles of pipes was completed and the improvement to bunkers and fairways in the area drained was most marked. In addition sump drainage has been provided for other bunkers which tended to hold water Hast year. Raised and enlarged tees have been constructed at many of the holes while a major scheme of removing the steep bank at the 15th hole is almost completed. Work is also in progress on the valley between the 16th and 17th fairways where a practice fairway is being prepared. i “Additions to the plant were made during tne year and the club now possesses an efficient mower (quiutiplc with spare unit) and a hay mower for cutting the rough. The greens mower, tractor and motor truck are in good order. “Matches were played against Feilding, Shannon, ' Rangitikei, Manawatu, Raumai, Herrington and Levin Clubs, the visits being much enjoyed by our players who are looking forward to the | return matches during the coming scaj “The increase in membership during : the year was 56, the total now standing at the satisfactory number of 327. “Owing to the departure from Palmerston North of Mr H. Bott, the office of Club Captain was rendered vacant early in the season. Mr C. J. Walsh, the Vice-Captain was elected to fill the vacancy, and Mr Walsh’s seat on the committee was filled by the appoint-

ment of Mr K. Dawkins. In accordance with the rules Messrs E. Simpson, K. Dawkins and L.-G. Sinclair retire from the committee but are eligible for re-election.

“The thanks of the club are duo to Mr and Mrs Ekstedt who as course manager and caterer have contributed very largely to the success of the first

year at the new course; also to the greenkeepers, Messrs A. Beale and W. Aitken, for willing and efficient service to the club.”

The following notice of motion, given by Mr L.. G. H. Sinclair, will be considered:—“That as from March 1, 1935, the committee be given power to increase the establishment levy to £1 Is ft year for each member and that rule 21 be amended accordingly.”
