Elderly Man Succumbs to Burns
Per Press Association. WAIHI, Last Night. Terrible injuries, caused by burns, resulting ia death were sustained by Mr. W. M. Stables, aged 84, on his farming property at Paretu, Whangamata district. Mr. Stables at the time was engaged burning off scrub on a 20-acre area when the fire got ahead of him crossing the fire-break. In making ar. attempt to beat out the flames, Air. Stables evidently fell on a burning tree trunk and became overcome by smoke and fumes. He was picked up in an unconscious condition by a youth employed on the farm.
